Wet and muddy,heavy boots again.Seems like constant rain.Checking for those oak leaves!
Nightingales have arrived but no word from the cuckoo yet?
What is happening on the farm this week?
Well into calving and lambing now .
We could all do with a few more hours sleep but apart from that,it is a very enjoyable time of the year! All the usual sheep dramas outside of course!
Just had a tiny little black Shetland ram lamb born,no bigger than a small kitten really!
Nasty suspicions that the resident Buzzard community are taking a meal or two from all our ovine efforts so we will have to keep him near the hedge until he gets a bit bigger and buzzard proof !!
Cows are in the barn,stealthily producing bonny calves one by one,so far problem free.
Managed to keep most of them out over winter on lighter ground and it worked very well!
New chickens have settled in and are laying well.
This is just in time!
Media revelations that eggs are now said to be GOOD for your heart and mind have merely confirmed what we all really know.
A fresh organic,truly free range egg from one of our happy hens is a perfect meal.The debate about size is also in the news and there are many converts to the "smaller is sweeter and kinder" camp !
It has never been a problem for us at market because we have always let customers choose whatever!We have never charged more for larger eggs and it has always worked so far!
Increased demand for our eggs recently has meant that we are hanging around the hen house waiting for them to be laid so that we can supply our local customers!
Providing the foxes,mink,buzzards keep away and leave the girls in peace,all will be ok!
What are we bringing to market this week and where are those markets?
Very encouraging interest from all the Cranleigh market visitors .
Opportunity to explain the differences between organic and free range to one and all!
We cook our sausage tasters on the BBQ and get yet more cries of,
"Wow,these are the best sausages I have ever tasted!"
We will be there every week from now on so do come along and say hello.

Beef is hanging and will be ready around end of month/beginning of May.
Mutton as well as lamb this week.
Gloucester old spot,Middle White and Tamworth pork sausages and chipolatas,gluten free and traditional,all made by our own fair hands!
Pork joints and chops from the same.
Dry cured back and streaky bacon,pancetta and gammons.
All our usual wonderful eggs. See you at market soon.
